چکیده
My primary research interest areas are human computer interaction, virtual humans, virtual environments, and 3D user interaction. In particular, I am interested in the comparison of human-human interaction to human-virtual human interaction in the context of social psychology. I have conducted experiments which have shown that some of the social influence theories from human-human interactions carry over to human-virtual human interactions. In the future, I will continue to fully examine and understand how people respond to virtual humans under different social settings and ultimately apply these findings to practical applications such as technical training (e.g., nurses, medical students, actors, and technicians), social skills training (e.g., practicing your presentation skills, job interview skills, and countless other social skills), tele-collaboration, and enhancing virtual environments. In my research, I strive for creativity, solid methodology for experimentation and true collaboration with experts from other areas of expertise.

Evaluating Realism for Virtual Supporting Characters
Convincing and compelling virtual environments that are populated with rich characters demand consistent, nuanced, and realistic behavior that is integrated in the surrounding environment. Inadequate and unscalable traditional Artificial Intelligence based approaches have made it impractical to apply this level of character depth and detail to large environments. We introduce the concept of Sup...
متن کاملThree Avatars Walk into a Bar: Defining and Evaluating Realism for Virtual Supporting Characters
Convincing and compelling virtual environments that are populated with rich characters demand consistent, nuanced, and realistic behavior that is integrated in the surrounding environment. We introduce the concept of Supporting Character Realism (SCR) for virtual avatars by identifying the capabilities of agents which have the ability to work in tandem with traditional “main character realism” ...
متن کاملLessons Learned in Assessing Human-Virtual Human Interaction
To avoid the “file drawer effect” of unreported null results, we report on an experimental study in assessing humanvirtual human interaction. In this study, participants were asked to spend about ten minutes with a projected lifesized virtual human. The virtual human interacted with the participants by speaking to them and exhibited three different tones of voice and facial expressions correspo...
